Ron Hansen is the author of ten novels, two collections of stories, and a previous book of essays, A Stay Against Confusion. He is currently the Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J. Professor in the Arts and Humanities at Santa Clara University in Northern California. He is married to the novelist Bo Caldwell.
